Know how to check that you are on a secure site:

If you are about to enter sensitive information on a website, you must be able to identify whether or not that site is secure.

Look at your browser’s address bar

If the address starts with “https://” that means the site has an added layer of security that creates an encrypted connection between the web server and your browser. This additional layer allows private information to be transmitted securely.

Note that web pages intended for browsing may not have this level of security, and that is ok. You should, however, look for “https” on all pages that require you to log in and/or enter any sort of sensitive information.

Similarly, a padlock icon after or before the URL address bar is another indication that a website is secure.
